Raw materials are substances that are directly derived from natural sources. Raw materials are largely responsible for the economic success of a country. They have different names such as feedstock, unprocessed material, or primary commodity. These are basic materials that serve the purpose of goods production, finished products, and energy.

What are the materials used in construction or building?

Building materials are resources that are primarily used in the construction industry. Some commonly used building materials that are used in the construction process are:

Significance of Raw Materials in the Construction Industry

  • Timber:

Concretes are free of defects and are highly durable. It can be designed according to will, as per the needs. Due to its non-combustible nature, concrete is capable of protecting the building fire. They are resistant to wind and water too.

  • Steel: 

Steel studs can be found in a variety of sizes, in a fabricated order. They are capacious to tolerate different loads in buildings coming in various forms. Steel frames can be fire-resistant as well.

These were, in brief, some of the widely used materials for building constructions. Their usage and advantages are evident, and so is the fact of the importance of raw materials in the construction industry.
