Bread is one of the most amazing things you can make from scratch.  It smells good, tastes great, costs a fraction of store bought bread, and is quite easy once you get the hang of it.  Because December is a busy month for everyone, we wanted to present a challenge that is attainable, helps you feed extra family members and offers a “homey” feel during the holiday season.

The challenge this month is to bake one loaf every week of the month for a total of four loaves.  You can make the same type of bread or experiment with multiple varieties.  If you have never baked bread from scratch before, you will want to try our Master Bread Recipe for the perfect loaf of sandwich bread. (You might also want to check out some youtube videos to see how kneading is done.) This is also a great time to give your sourdough starter some attention if you have one started!  Try any of our recipes for no-keand sourdough bread or no-kneed whole wheat bread or try a sandwich loaf.  We love the idea of actual loaves of bread, but any yeasted bread product would work like  sandwich thins, pizza crust or rolls.

We’d love to see pictures of your bread and hear about any spectacular recipes you tried. Anyone who participates will have a chance to win a set of beautiful tea towels perfect for covering your bread as it rises.  Get baking and don’t forget to enjoy the experience along the way.

For us, we are now fully gluten-free, so we will be experimenting with different recipes in search of the perfect loaf of gluten-free bread.  We are even buying a tub of yeast at Costco to cement our commitment to homemade bread!
